Laubach Literacy was founded in 1955 by Frank Laubach, who was a missionary in the Philippines in the 1930s.  By training volunteers and developing teaching materials Dr Laubach empowered many people around the world to improve their lives through literacy.   Today we are proud to carry on his legacy.

We are an all-volunteer 501(c) 3 corporation serving Ventura County for over 50 years.  We are dedicated to teaching adults 18 years and older to speak, understand, read, and write English and to familiarize them with American culture.

We offer flexible one-on-one instruction and small group instruction in English.  Tutor training and instructional materials are provided to tutors FREE of CHARGE and students are provided with appropriate learning materials.

Usually, tutors meet with their students for an hour to an hour and a half per week, depending on the needs of the student and or the mutual decision made by them.
