The Prez Sez by Ed Lynch

40 Years of Service

The end of another year is just a few weeks away. The Officers and Directors of the Board of Laubach Literacy have concentrated on several goals during the past year that we hope will increase our ability to perform our mission in the years ahead.  In July, we shared the video we have produced with the annual meeting attendees.  We plan to use this video to inform more people about Laubach, its mission and impact on the community.  We have inducted several new volunteer board members and have clarified how the work must be done to be an effective organization.  We have begun to develop a data management system to help us manage, share, and our information.  We have developed better training materials and methods.  Our Tutors have contributed more hours of tutoring in the past year than in any recent year.

The year ahead offers many challenges. Our primary focus in 2010 will be to increase the number of volunteer tutors that are working in the county.  We plan to increase our efforts to reach the public by radio, newspaper, internet, and outreach to the many community organizations where future tutors and students are members. In the same vein, we are working to establish tutor and student coordinators in each of the communities where we serve. We have many prospective students who have contacted us and are waiting until we can provide tutors for them.

We will continue to develop and improve our data management system, as well as, upgrade our website.  Additional videos may be produced if that serves to promote our mission.

We welcome any volunteers to join the Board and contribute to the future success of this organization.  We can offer many opportunities for any who would like to help.

As we celebrate our 40th year of service in the county, we look forward to a Prosperous and Successful 2010.
